French-English Bilingual Preschool Sample Daily Schedule
9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
9:00 am - 10:30 am
Structured Activities, Free Choice, Snack Preparation - Children
move between structured (proposed) activities which are set up for
them and free choice activities.
Weekly structured activities include:
Mondays - Collective Drawing
Wednesdays (every other) - Creative Movement or Storytelling / Puppetry & Seasonal
Songs / Finger plays
Thursdays (every other) - Wet-on-wet Watercolor Painting
Other structured
activities are related to monthly theme projects such as constructing
a teepee, building an igloo village, or making an aquarium display.
Others vary throughout the year including: cooking, sewing, art and
craft projects, and physical-knowledge activities. The structured
activities may be done collectively or in small groups. Each child
is expected to participate in this work.
Free choice - Children engage freely with whatever classroom materials
are available to them i.e. blocks, dress-up clothes & props, manipulatives,
doll & house play, games and puzzles, water & sand play, drawing &
art materials, easel painting, musical instruments, modeling material,
and reading, writing, science, and math resources. Teachers not only
encourage the children to explore and practice using all classroom
materials but also work with them individually or in small groups.
Snack Preparation - Each day the children prepare snack and set the
table. They love using real kitchen utensils for peeling, chopping,
cutting, and spreading. This work is not only great fun but develops
fine motor skills. All snacks are tasty and nutritious. Favorites
include bagels and cream cheese with fruit or raw vegetables, various
breads with butter, jam, or honey and fruit or vegetables, hot or
cold cereal with fruit, and crackers and cheese with fruit or vegetables.
Water is served at all meals. Individual snack plans are developed with parent input for children with food allergies.

10:30 am - 11 :00 am
Circle Time
Circle time may include singing, finger plays, storytelling, reading
stories, music and movement, mystery bag activities, games, sharing,
and calendar activities. New material is also presented during circle
time.
11:00 am - 11:45 am
Snack and Clean-up
Children and teachers eat snack together seated at a table. Snack
is a relaxed, social time drawing everyone together after a busy morning.
Table conversation and the practice of good table manners are encouraged.
Each child clears his/her dishes after eating. Everyone helps with
general clean up of the classroom before going outside to play.
11:45 am - 12:30 p.m.
Outdoor Play
Outdoor play is an integral part of the program designed to foster
physical development, social relationships and nature exploration.
Children play outside in a variety of natural settings. The children
bring wonderful imagination, energy and spirit to their play in the
Great Meadows Conservation land and a pond habitat just behind the
school. They also enjoy walks in the woods, ball and running games
in a large field, sledding in winter and romping in a playground which
features a large wooden arc for a climbing structure, rock outcroppings,
movable tree stumps, tree swinging and ample space to run and dig.
